What is your earliest memory of video games and at what point did you know it was something
you would love for life?
Jamal
The earliest memory I have of playing video games would probably be Pitfall on my family’s Atari 2600. But The Legend of Zelda for NES and Donkey Kong Country for the SNES made me a gamer for life. I just remember not being able to think about anything else. All day I would dream about playing video games because I was only allowed a small amount of time during the week to play them. So when I couldn’t play video games, I would act them out in real life. I remember running around outside pretending I was Link on an adventure using a stick in place of the Master Sword.
Brent
My first memory of video games has to be either watching my sister play Mario with a weird pad controller on the floor of my aunts living room, or playing the Oregon trail with my paw paw. I think when I realized games were something I would love for life had to have been around the n64/ps1 era. I couldn’t put my finger on an exact point in time but I developed a kind of mania around renting new games and trying them all out around this time.
Tell us the story of how this bromance started how Did you guys become such good friend? Tell us you story?
Brent
If I remember correctly we met in the Burger King ball pit when we were in like 2nd grade or something and have been best friends ever since. Almost as far back as I can remember we have been hanging out and playing games.
Jamal
Yep, Burger King brought you this dynamic duo. Every weekend on from that point was video games and geekdom at each other’s houses.
What was the inspiration to start your podcast?

Brent My inspiration to start a podcast was actually more or less just Jamal calling me and asking me to start a podcast. Prior to starting our own podcast I really had never even listened to one. A lot of my inspiration for podcasting actually comes from “the late show with David letterman” I was obsessed with Dave as a kid and really admire the way he conducts interviews, but also how he can keep the show entertaining just by himself.
Jamal I had been working a night job for a while around 2011 and started listening to IGN’s Podcast Beyond and The Comedy Button to keep me entertained during my shift. From then on my list of Podcasts I would look forward to each week kept growing and growing. Eventually (about two and a half years ago.) I thought to myself, “Hey! You and Brent could make a great podcast together!” I called him up, and the rest is history.
What inspired you to open up to YouTube also?
Brent YouTube was always on our radar. If you go back to like 2007 or so we actually have these mini movies we made as kids. I’m sure if you dig deep enough you can still find them. But aside from that we had to go on YouTube so people could stop asking to see us in stunning high definition.
What is the dream for you guys, what's the dream goal?
Jamal To make Game Speak Podcast and Create For Sanity our job, though It’s always been about the creation aspect. I find my life is miserable if I’m not at least working on something I am truly passionate about. So even if it never does becomes a full time job, I can’t imagine not doing it. But patronage never hurts!
Brent My dream goal is that our podcast gets loads of attention and sponsors and we are able to quit our jobs and focus full time on making content for under the create for sanity moniker.
What is your top 3 Couch co-op games to rock together?
Brent Good question, I know with Jamal back in the day we used to play a lot of Minecraft. But if I have to say a top 3 with Jamal specifically I’m gonna say...
Borderlands 2
Mario party 2
And super smash brothers
Jamal I’m just gonna add in Halo: CE to Brent’s list
What are your top 3 videos games and why?
Jamal
1. Conker’s Bad Fur Day because it was the first game that I can remember making me laugh out loud, every chapter was memorable and fun and the multiplayer was phenomenal. Also it was mature as hell for a little kid like me to be playing, but I played it and look at me now, I’m fine...
2. Donkey Kong Country because it’s a classic that never gets old. I go back and play it multiple times a year. The platforming is precise and the graphics/art direction and music is still mind blowing to me to this day.
3. Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island Because it evokes incredibly biased nostalgia for me. It was the first game I remember completely beating on my own. The music is incredibly catchy and when it comes to the art design, there was nothing like it then and nothing compares even now in my opinion.
Brent
Top 3 video games is very hard to pick on the spot, and is subject to change at any second. But just off the top of my head, I’ll say
1. Star Wars knights of the old republic
2. Persona 5
3. God of War (2018)
What are your top 3 consoles and why?
Brent
1. Ps4 (good library/virtual reality)
2. Switch (swichabilty)
3. PSP (because f**k all the psp haters that’s why. Lol.)
Jamal
1. Xbox One because it’s my main console and has been killing it lately with Game Pass. I can’t believe the titles they have been dropping lately for subscribers.
2. Switch because I’m a Nintendo fanboy all the way, and you just can’t beat Super Mario Odyssey, The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild, Pokémon and Animal Crossing. Plus, now I have access to some of the best SNES games of all time for only $20 a year. God, I love the future.
3. 3DS because the library is insane if you include all of the DS titles. There are so many amazing Platformers and RPGs to play that you could probably never run out of stuff to play. Oh yeah, and Animal Crossing.
What upcoming titles are you excited for?

Jamal I’m beyond excited for Pokémon Sword and Shield, Animal Crossing and The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening for Switch. Outside of Nintendo titles, mainly just Cyberpunk 2077 and Outer Worlds.
Brent Upcoming titles that excite me... I’m looking forward to the outer worlds, and cyber punk 2077 particularly. I’m also very eager to see what’s new in persona 5 R.
Who is your all-time favourite video game character and why?
Brent My all time favorite video game character would have to be Morgana from Persona 5. For those of you that haven’t played the game Morgana is a cat that can talk to you and lives with you in the game. I’m kind of a cat guy in general, but I can’t get enough of my cat telling me I’m looking cool.
Jamal Link from The Legend of Zelda all the way, baby. He’s a hero and we all want to be heroes. It’s just a primal thing I suppose, but it is what it is.
If any, what real life skills would you say videos games have taught you growing up?
Brent I would say video games have increased my vocabulary quite a bit. Maybe like time and resource management skills as well?
Jamal I would have to say Video Games helped me become persistent. I was never good at consistency except when it came to video games. Eventually I took that skill and attempted to apply it to other things and as you can see with Game Speak Podcast, it goes a long way to be persistent and consistent.
What video game character do you think best suits each others personalitys?

Brent I think Jamal would be Little Mac from punch out. Because all he does is train the be the best.
Jamal Brent would have to be Mario. The reason I say this is because he can fit himself into any scenario and be fairly natural at it. He doesn’t get embarrassed or think too much, even if it’s not something he’s familiar with. He’s good at being himself in the moment just like Mario, whatever he does, he makes it his e.g. Mario Tennis, Mario Party, Mario Golf
Is there anyone you would like to thank for supporting your goals along the way?
Jamal I would like to thank all of our current and future Patrons at patreon.com/createforsanity (shameless plug) and to all the people who listen to our show every week and continue to hang with us in our Facebook group! Also, Chad Mclain, Dylan Partin and David Stanley!
Brent I gotta thank Chad, Dylan, Orly Rodriguez, David Stanley and everyone else who has ever listened to or come on the show
Have your say guys
Brent and Jamal- “laterrrrr!”
